Def Poetry is a show presented on the U.S. HBO, since 2002. Created by entrepreneur Russel Simmons known partly for Phat Farm. and hosted by Actor and MC Mos Def. It features slam rappers of any status, and also occasionally, popular artists who comes to surprise the crowd with their own poems. Though not a slam poetry contest by itself most of the participant are fluent slam writers, and many of them have been in the National Slam Poetry Championships organised by Poetry Slam Inc.
Def Poetry features mainly social & political poetry. It hurts sometimes and its always made to make you think. Def poetry is a bastion of artists which will at the least entertain you but more often than scarce will educate your soul.
